Collaboration with Ability Bhutan Society 2026

Invest for children continues in 2026 the collaboration initiated in 2024 with Ability Bhutan Society (ABS), with the aim of promoting the social inclusion of children with disabilities, together with their families and caregivers. The project facilitates access to essential services in health, education, livelihoods and empowerment, responding to the needs identified in the intervention districts, where disability remains both a cause and a consequence of poverty.

Thanks to this collaboration, a sensory integration room has been established, enabling the delivery of efficient, evidence-based interventions to support the development of communication skills, social interaction, behaviour management, motor skills and activities of daily living. The project is progressing as planned, providing beneficiaries with 2.5 hours of one-to-one intervention twice a week. Each child’s goals are defined jointly with their families and reviewed on a quarterly basis.

Currently, 45 children with disabilities are receiving early intervention services, participating in learning areas such as pre-academic and academic skills, receptive and expressive communication, personal care and self-help skills, feeding, toileting, dressing and managing frustration, with the aim of fostering the highest possible level of independence.

Ability Bhutan Society (ABS) is a public benefit organisation registered in Bhutan in 2011, dedicated to supporting children with moderate to severe disabilities and their families. Inspired by the vision of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of a “compassionate and just society”, ABS benefits from the active patronage of Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, whose involvement strengthens its work in promoting inclusion, health and the well-being of children with disabilities.

Through early intervention programmes, institutional capacity building, advocacy and awareness-raising, community engagement, and national and international partnerships, ABS and Invest for children work together to build a more inclusive and equitable society for children with disabilities in Bhutan.
