Collaboration with Ability Bhutan Society 2026

In 2026, Invest for children continues the partnership launched in 2024 with Ability Bhutan Society (ABS), with the aim of promoting the social inclusion of children with disabilities, together with their families and caregivers. The project facilitates access to essential services in health, education, livelihoods and empowerment, addressing the needs identified in the intervention districts, where disability remains both a cause and a consequence of poverty.

Thanks to this collaboration, a sensory integration room has been established, enabling efficient, evidence-based interventions that support the development of communication skills, social interaction, behaviour management, motor skills and activities of daily living. Beneficiaries receive 2.5 hours of individual intervention twice a week, with goals defined jointly with their families and reviewed on a quarterly basis to ensure personalised support. Currently, 45 children with disabilities are participating in early intervention programmes focusing on pre-academic and academic skills, receptive and expressive communication, self-care, feeding, toileting, dressing and frustration management, helping them achieve the highest possible level of independence.

During 2026, the project has expanded its reach through a home-based intervention programme for children with severe disabilities who face barriers to attending the centre on a regular basis. Through scheduled home visits, ABS professionals provide tailored support and guidance to families, ensuring that children continue to receive specialised intervention within their own environment. This initiative also strengthens caregivers’ skills and contributes to improving the overall wellbeing of the family.

The project has further reinforced community outreach activities in rural districts and remote areas of Bhutan, where access to specialised services remains limited. These outreach programmes help identify needs, conduct functional assessments, provide guidance to families and raise awareness within local communities about the rights and potential of people with disabilities, promoting greater social and educational inclusion.

Ability Bhutan Society (ABS) is a public benefit organisation registered in Bhutan in 2011, dedicated to supporting children with moderate to severe disabilities and their families.
